CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS

It is the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis. While many seem to think the world is a different place than it was back then, I would have to disagree! People seem fixated on problems and allow tension to build and result into something as alarming and detrimental. Yes, nothing “bad” resulted from this crisis, but it could have easily been the other way.

I constantly see the our world escalating (if it hasn’t already) into a Cold War situation. Our kids are going to learn this history in there schooling as a similar situation after WWII. I am tired of our society living in fear and hatred towards the muslim population. The majority of people are good individuals. People need to realize that the radicals are not the mass of the population. Living in fear will get us no where in society. We always seem to need to fear something or someone. If the world just accepted itself and to the time to understand each other, fear would not be such a prevalent and dominating factor in this world. Fear towards communism, Muslims homosexuality, femininity, or other condemning qualities, is not okay. People are constantantly rediculed for being different or evil, when it is not okay. The world needs to educatate itself on what is morally wrong and how this is different than being socially wrong. Having a different religion not morally wrong; having a varied sexual prefernece is not ethically wrong.

For the other side that do see and understand my point, do not hate the opposition. They do not understand, and hatred only causes people to stray away from acceptance. By attacking and demonizing them, we are being hypocrites. Treat others with respect. Listen to their opinion and study their words. This is your way to fight. If you know what they fear, you can show them why they are wrong. Do not viciously attack ignorance; education creates acceptance. Take others for their flaws and all; lead by example. I know this is hard to do, but the choices we take today affect our future. If people begin to accept, the trickle down effect will occur. Let us have a brighter future through acceptance and understanding, by changing the way society views one another.

The anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis! Seriously. This is one of the most interesting points in American history. The US ‘s and Cuba’s relation is one of most complicated relations that we have ever had. It is crazy to think this has happened 50 years ago!

In a stunning upset today at the London Paralympic Games, South African runner Oscar Pistorius — who dazzled the world last month by competing against able-bodied athletes in the Olympic Games — was beaten at the finish line by Brazilian Alan Oliveira in the 200 meter sprint by 0.07 seconds. It was the first time Pistorius has been defeated at 200m in his competitive career. He takes home the silver medal, while Oliveira takes the gold.

The S5 category is for swimmers with major limb loss of two limbs or with full use of their arms and hands but no trunk or leg muscles; swimmers with moderate coordination problems.

Jock Sock’s US Open run ended today against Nicolas Almagro. Sock took the second set and lost the 1,3,4. It was a great match to watch, and Sock gave Almagro a run for his money. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Jack Sock, the young American tennis player. He is definitely the future of American tennis! GO JACK!!!

“I’ve decided that this is going to be my last tournament. I just feel like it’s time. I don’t know if I’m healthy enough or committed enough to go another year. I’ve always wanted to finish at this event, I’ve thought all year that I would know when I got to this tournament and, when I played…

Although I will miss Andy on the court, I totally agree with his decision. Andy has been such a great American Tennis Icon. He has and still is the role model for most rising, young American tennis men. Recently, Andy’s play has been subpar to his original abilities. I think that he realizes that he has passed his prime, and rather than disappear without a strong ending or memory, he should retire while he is still relatively on top. Andy is a recently married man, and he seems ready to start a new chapter in his life with his wife. Good luck, Andy Roddick! You will definitely be missed, but not forgotten!
